The Queen of Roses
Roses have been man’s feel-good ally for millennia - symbols of love, beauty, and emotional balance long before science explained why.
But one rose stands above them all - the Bulgarian Rose, known as the Queen of Roses!
Grown in the heart of Bulgaria’s Rose Valley, this rare flower holds more calming terpenes and antioxidant polyphenols than any other plant - a natural harmony that soothes mind, body, and spirit.
Its scent - rich in citronellol, geraniol, and phenylethyl alcohol - gently tells your nervous system to slow down and breathe.
Its polyphenols - quercetin and kaempferol - work within to ease stress, lift mood, and restore balance.
The result is a state of instant and lasting calm - one you can taste, breathe, and live from.
Science
Behind every drop of Rose Nectar lies the chemistry of calm.
The Bulgarian Rose is exceptionally rich in aromatic terpenes and antioxidant polyphenols — compounds scientifically shown to relax the nervous system, reduce oxidative stress, and support emotional balance.
Its aroma — abundant in citronellol, geraniol, nerol, and phenylethyl alcohol — communicates directly with the limbic system, the part of the brain that governs mood and emotion, helping the body enter its natural rest-and-restore state.
Meanwhile, its polyphenols — quercetin, kaempferol, and ellagic acid — work on a deeper level to neutralize free radicals, lower inflammation, and nurture long-term balance and resilience.
Together, they create a synergy that goes beyond aroma or taste — a measurable calm that you can feel, breathe, and live from.
The Neurochemistry of Calm
1. Aromatic terpenes signal the brain directly through the olfactory system.
The key molecules in Bulgarian Rosa Damascena — citronellol, geraniol, and phenylethyl alcohol — are aromatic terpenes that travel through the olfactory pathways to the limbic system, particularly the amygdala and hypothalamus (the brain’s emotional and hormonal control centers).
When inhaled or absorbed through mucous membranes, these molecules trigger a parasympathetic (“rest-and-restore”) response — reducing sympathetic nervous activity and inhibiting excessive release of cortisol from the adrenal glands.
In short:
The aroma of rose communicates calm directly to the brain — before you even think it.
2. Neurochemical modulation of serotonin and GABA.
Studies show that rose essential oil components increase brain levels of serotonin (the “feel-good” neurotransmitter) and enhance GABAergic activity, which calms neuronal firing.
Higher serotonin and GABA both suppress overproduction of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) — the upstream signal that tells your body to make cortisol.
3. Antioxidant polyphenols reduce physiological stress.
Bulgarian rose petals also contain polyphenols like quercetin and kaempferol.
These compounds lower oxidative stress in the hypothalamus and adrenal tissue, stabilizing the body’s stress response and improving cortisol regulation over time.
This is why Rose Nectar produces both instant calm (via terpenes) and lasting balance (via antioxidants).
Ancient Medicine & Energy Healing
Long before modern science named its terpenes and polyphenols, the Bulgarian Rose was revered as a plant of the heart — used for centuries in medicine, ritual, and energetic healing.
In ancient Persian, Greek, and Thracian traditions, rose petals and oils were used to cool the body, uplift the spirit, and open the heart. Healers believed the rose carried the highest vibration of all flowers — an energy that dissolves tension and restores harmony between body and soul.
In Ayurvedic and Unani medicine, rose is classified as a natural nervine and heart tonic — calming fiery emotions, relieving anxiety, and soothing digestion, all while awakening inner joy.
In Bulgarian folk medicine, rose elixirs were cherished as remedies for emotional fatigue and energetic imbalance — thought to “bring light to the heart” and clear the pathways of calm. The morning harvest itself was considered sacred: petals gathered at dawn, when the flower’s life force — its prana — was at its peak.
Today, modern research confirms what ancient healers intuited — that the rose’s chemistry and energy work together to restore balance, elevate mood, and raise vibrational harmony.
It’s a bridge between science and spirit, body and energy, calm and vitality — all united in one timeless flower.
How We Make
Rose Nectar
How We Make
Rose Nectar
In late spring, during only three weeks per year, we handpick your organic Roses in our Rose farms in the Rose Valley of Bulgaria. We handpick them at dawn, before the sun rises, while the petals have the highest concentration of essential oils. Through a unique process, we immediately extract the nutrients from the fresh petals to preserve their richness and quality. We transport the Rose extract and the Rose oil via air to our facilities in California, where we handcraft in small batches your Rose Nectar® - a proprietary blend of Bulgarian Rose extract and essential Rose oil. The result is the only ingestible Rose product with the full gamut of the Bulgarian Rose nutrients and a distinguished, pure taste and aroma. We then pour it in amber glass bottles to protect against the effects of light, so you can enjoy the most pristine Rose product in the world. Because of its potent anti-aging properties, we called it Nectar - “the drink of the Gods”.
Born in Bulgaria. Made with Love in California.
